What is Rocket Yoga ?

Rocket Yoga or “Progressive Ashtanga Vinyasa” is a system created from the orginial Ashtanga Yoga systemised by K Pattabhi Jois. Rocket Yoga was created by one of Pattabhi’s students Larry Schultz.

Larry Schultz created the Rocket routines, a series of postures based on the modification of the traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Primary and Intermediate series.

There are three original series; Rocket 1; Rocket 2; and Rocket 3.

“The Rocket is designed to wake up the nervous system and feed it the precious prana it craves while promoting a spirit of change and freedom in the practice”

Larry Schultz

Larry developed the routine while touring as a private Yoga teacher for the band The Evil Dead and Bob Weir is given credit for coining the name “Rocket” with the catch phrase “It gets you there faster!”

The Rocket routines are a revision of the traditional Ashtanga series that destroys the “hierarchy” of postures and gives the students control over their own creative process as they follow a new foundation then opens space for them to introduce their creative modifications to the series.

What Makes Rocket different from Vinyasa flow and Power Yoga ?

The Rocket 1,2 & 3 series are set routines that offer a foundation to be built upon. The unique sequencing can be seen throughout from the standing to seated series.

The Rocket sequences are full of forward folds, back bending, spinal twisting, hip opening and core strengthening exercises to create a well balanced class. Hand stands and arm balances keep the energy levels high and encourage students to connect in with their inner power!

Rocket is a highly inclusive practice and brings a twist to the more traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa practice.

Calum Thomson, Kelly Mason & Jess Fleet have all been certified by David Kyle, one of Larry’s most dedicated students, taking their Rocket trainings with him in Lisbon and Milan.

Our studio offers Rocket classes throughout the week allowing you to experience and enjoy this progressive and playful practice!
